Wayne Roberts @ The Flying Lady, Crewe View map - The Flying Lady Permanent link

Wayne Roberts

"What can be said about this young, versatile, entertainer? (quite a bit, actually!)

He started his vocal career and entertaining at a very early age. however, it was not until he teamed up with another young man and created the duo ' Full Stop' that things took off.

That was some years ago and since then Wayne has worked with some of the biggest names in showbiz (Jimmy Cricket to name just one). He has appeared on the showcase show call with ' The Stage' newspaper, who stated that 'Full Stop' are like the up and coming 'Ant and Dec'.

Wayne and ' Full Stop ' are still going strong and continue to make people laugh wherever they go. In 2005 Wayne decided to pursue a solo career as well as the duo and has proved himself to be worthy as a solo artiste.

His blend of vocal capability and humour are a must-see experience for any audience and with his varying range of music there will be something for everyone to enjoy."

The Penguin Incident @ The Brunswick, Crewe View map - The Brunswick Permanent link

The Penguin Incident

The Penguin Incident are a rag-tag bunch of musicians from the Northwich area, who were once described by Oliver Reed as the musical equivalent of the A-Team. Still on the run from the CIA for crimes they did not commit (it wasn’t them, honest!), The Penguin Incident have become Rock Soldiers of Fortune, playing gigs in pubs and clubs to fund the cause and to pay for their ever expanding bar tab...

The Penguins play a blend of both modern and classic rock covers, with the emphasis on having a good time.

Please don’t be put off by all the hype around the legendary party antics of this five piece band, who make Motley Crue, look like the New Seekers. Although they like to party, most of the recent reports about wild drunken debauchery have been slightly wide of the mark! Robert Plant, when asked to comment on the band, famously said “who?"

What they are saying about the Penguins:

Why hasn’t Mr Beckett, the guitarist from the mighty Penguin Incident, featured on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine yet? It’s a disgrace; it’s what the people want! - F Rossi, Margarita Nursing Home, Surrey

My Mum booked a band called The Penguin Incident for my 100th birthday party, I can’t recommend
them highly enough - great vocalist, loads better that the guy who used to be in my band back in
the early 70s! Rock n Roll!
- Sir Jimmy Page, Rocksville

A band called The Penguin Incident played my local pub last night. These guys can really rock. Their version of “Whole Lotta Rosie” was epic, I really impressed with Paul`s solo, don’t miss them when they visit your town. - Richie Blackmore, Toadstool Hollow, Elf-land

I finally got to see The Penguin Incident down at the Bowling Green last weekend, what a crackin' night, me and my mate Dean (Martin), pulled a couple of local gals, got hammered and listened to some great music. I got to meet Mark, the bass guitarist, after the show, What a top bloke, and a what a great bass player! Great pint of mild in the Green too, cheers Tim, - Mr Frank Sinatra, Los Angeles, CA

I asked myself the other day, what’s happened to all the great rock drummers in the world? Then I saw Kerrie from the impressive Penguin Incident, the future is in good hands. I will sleep well tonight - N Peart, A Mountain, Canada

These boys really know how to party; I think I had a great night - O Osborne, Birmingham, England

The bass player is hot, anyone know his number? - Miss K Minogue, Ramsey St, Australia

Something About Simon @ The Lyceum Theatre, Crewe View map - The Lyceum Theatre Permanent link

Something About Simon

Paul Simon is a name that has cemented itself into the “hearts and bones” of audiences all over the world.
As an artist, his name has become synonymous, not only with music, but with cultural history.

In this highly acclaimed show, singer-songwriter Gary Edward Jones not only recites the music of one of his idols, but also tells the unique story of Paul Simon combining visuals, stage design and, of course… the music.

With classic ballads like The Sound Of Silence, America and Kathy’s Song, to the more upbeat Me And Julio, 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover, Wristband, to the much-loved Bridge Over Troubled Waters. The show will have you both reliving and rediscovering these great songs again.

After years of comparisons, Gary set out on a journey of discovery and for over two years, he lived and breathed all things Simon, creating a show which has received five-star reviews and standing ovations across the UK and is heading to Crewe Lyceum direct from a hugely successful run Edinburgh Fringe with four-star reviews across the board.

A natural storyteller, with charisma and a certain charm, Gary weaves together songs and stories that cross the Atlantic, from New Jersey to the North-west of England. He traces the sometimes-poignant moments in Simon’s life and career, that occasionally mirror his own.

Something About Simon is not a tribute show; it is one musician authentically honouring the music of another. For around ninety minutes, allow Gary Edward Jones to take you back to those days and tell you Something About Simon.

Gary Edward Jones held the audience with a captivated awe… he is special, extraordinary. Liverpool Sound and Vision *****

Something About Simon…there is something about Jones that lingers. Reviewer Number 9 *****

A Beautiful Noise - Neil Diamond tribute @ The Lyceum Theatre, Crewe View map - The Lyceum Theatre Permanent link

A Beautiful Noise - Neil Diamond tribute

Fresh from London's West End, internationally acclaimed production A Beautiful Noise celebrates the music of Neil Diamond!

The show pays homage to Neil’s incredible career, from the hits he penned during his time in the Brill Building, to the amazing musical achievements that have led him to become one of the world’s most famous singer-songwriters.

Led by Fisher Stevens and his full live band, A Beautiful Noise also features a cast of professional musicians ready to take you on a moving and powerful musical journey.

Celebrating all the classic hits of one of the world’s greatest ever singer-songwriters, this is a musical adventure unrivalled by any other. Re-visiting over five decades of sparkling musical gems including, Love On The Rocks, Sweet Caroline, Forever In Blue Jeans, Song Sung Blue, I am …I Said, America, Holly Holy, Red Red Wine, I’m A Believer and many more.

★★★★ The atmosphere is electric. In lieu of the great man himself, A Beautiful Noise is a worthy tribute to Neil Diamond and his legacy to music.

★★★★ With his sincere and charismatic stage presence Fisher Stevens may as well be the real Diamond, the audience is putty in his hands.

★★★★ The legendary music of Neil Diamond is brought to life on a West End stage for a night you won’t forget, and as tributes to the greats go, you’d struggle to get more bang for your buck in the West End.

Derailed @ The Brunswick, Crewe View map - The Brunswick Permanent link

Derailed

DERAILED are a four-piece rock covers band based in Crewe.

VOCALIST Suzi Venables-Wood ‘Suzi Blue’ brings a new twist to class rock covers. With her powerful and agile vocals, she brings a vocal quality to the band. She takes to stage with enthusiasm and a diverse set list that is sure to have you singing along. Taking inspiration from Muse, Skunk Anansie and No Doubt, she brings a vibrant and fresh sound to the stage.

LEAD GUITARIST Dave Dayman has been playing guitar since the age of nine. His first guitar was a beaten up acoustic and in the beginning he had dreams of playing in a world-dominating heavy metal band (very uncool at the time as it was 1982 and electronic music was the 'in thing'). From that point on he was hooked on anything to do with music, especially the guitar and has always had a passion for rock based music. His taste has grown over the years (age and wisdom do that to you apparently) and his influences include a wide range of artists from Queen and Muse to Band of Skulls and Biffy Clyro, Simple Minds to Early Maiden, Pink Floyd to Free and plenty in between. Dave has played with various bands over the years and loves how music makes him feel... His passion for music is somewhat contagious.

BASSIST Ian 'Hitchy' Hitchinson is a seasoned bass guitarist, formerly of long running local band Bedlam, is now plucking the low strings in this unique female fronted rock band. Originally from Sandbach, he's always been into rock music, and was a biker back in the day. Musically his influences range from The Beatles, Cage the Elephant, Chilli peppers to The Cheeky Girls. Only joking...

DRUMMER Carl Hitchen played in previous bands with two members of Derailed before, local band Bedlam with Suzi and Ian and the Typhoons with Ian. He's played in loads of different bands and different styles of music over the last 15 years, stood in for other bands and helped out when the drummer wasn't available. He says that he 'wings it' most of the time as he's not allowed a kit setup at home as he's quite heavy-handed so his practice drumkit is his steering wheel on the way to work! His favourite style of music is metal but he'll play absolutely anything as long as it sounds good!

O'Hooley and Tidow @ The Lyceum Theatre, Crewe View map - The Lyceum Theatre Permanent link

O'Hooley and Tidow

Much loved Yorkshire folk duo Belinda O’Hooley and Heidi Tidow have suddenly been propelled into newfound fame for penning the theme tune for Sally Wainwright’s hit BBC1/HBO drama ‘Gentleman Jack’, earning them global admiration, appearances on TV, Radio 4 Woman’s Hour and concerts that sell out months in advance.

Belinda and Heidi’s boundless songwriting has been described by The Guardian as ‘exceptional’ and The Independent as ‘defiant, robust, northern, poetical, political folk music for the times we live in.’ From an emotionally charged song about an elephant orphanage in Nairobi, to a joyous celebration of the Leeds cycling champion Beryl Burton, they explore, consider and connect subjects and stories in a distinctive, inventive and memorable way.

Having the originality and skill to invite comparison with the most celebrated harmony duos, from early Simon and Garfunkel to the iconic Kate and Anna McGarrigle, 6 Music’s Tom Robinson says ‘They sing together in the way families do. Normally, you only get that closeness in the voices with family bands like The Coppers or The Watersons.’

‘I have just listened to your track, ‘Beryl’, with tears in my eyes! It’s beautiful and brilliant.’ Maxine Peake

Nominated four times for BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards ‘Best Duo’.
