The definitive guide to live music and gigs in the Crewe area.
James Lea (known as Lea) was born in Wrexham in November 1989. He was named after bassist Jimmy Lea by his Slade-mad Dad, which subsequently led to Lea growing up listening to the "noize" of Slade, Sweet, Bryan Adams, and later Oasis.
Inspired by the influx of reality pop TV in the early 2000's, he began singing at the age of 12 before buying his first guitar aged 13 - taught by Wrexham favourite, PJ Davies.
Around this time, Lea began entering and winning several local talent competitions, before reaching out further afield and entering regional and national competitions. This culminated with winning Staffordshire's Search For A Star in 2006.
By this time Lea had developed a repertoire big enough to sustain a set list, and began taking small gigs with his sister Lyndsay as duo act "Linzi & Lea".
Lea's setlist largely consisted of swing music, taking inspiration from Robbie Williams' Swing When You're Winning album and the emergence of Michael Buble.
This eventually led to Lea becoming the front man for Cheshire based swing band The Celebrities in the summer of 2009. In 2011 Lea travelled to Scandinavia, playing the role of Dean Martin in a Rat Pack tribute show.
Lea is also currently working for other Funky Entertainment bands such as The Funky Doctors and The Speakers, and has deputised for other North West bands such as Elbow Room, The JB's and The Jukes.
4.00pm afternoon show.
